An occasion to celebrate with friends and family from all over the world for this Middle Eastern couple

The union of friends and family from both near and far was the focal point of Nada Baeshen’s wedding to Hamad Alrayes, 35, with the bride hailing from Saudi Arabia, the groom from Kuwait, and both having spent time studying in America. “Our wedding was a reunion for so many and the most magical part was having all my loved ones there,” Nada, 34, says. After the two met at a mutual friend’s dinner party, the path of romance was simple and smooth. “One year after we started courting, Hamad proposed. He simply set a date to speak to my dad, as that was the only way of making it official, and it just happened gradually.”

Dubai was a natural choice because it was “easy for all our friends and family to join us,” says Nada, a fashion designer and entrepreneur, who turned to Zainab Alsalih from Carousel Events to bring her dream wedding to life. The couple chose the Four Seasons in Jumeirah for its “beautiful gardens and impeccable service,” Nada says.

“The first thing I told Zainab is that I was not a traditional bride,” explains Nada of her stylistic choices. “Instead, I wanted the wedding to be relaxed, and most of all, reflect my style and personality.” With a design that would ensure her wedding stood out, the couple eschewed typical wedding hues such as pastels or all white, in favour of a colourful palette that reflected her vibrant personality, mixed with a boho-chic vibe. “It was eclectic and colourful, with a fun, relaxed and young-at-heart theme,” Nada explains.

Nada’s quest for a dress was a labour of love, resulting in a dream collaboration. “As I’m in the fashion business, with three clothing boutiques in Saudi, I knew what I wanted, which was a Grace Kelly feel. I searched around Paris and was unlucky with the first dress I chose, so stopped looking for a while. Still, four months before the wedding, I had no dress.” It wasn’t until Ramadan, when Nada was scouring Instagram, that she found Lebanese designer Ziad Nakad. “I flew to Beirut, shared some pictures and we worked together to create something elegant and easy to move and dance in, but with beautiful embroidery. A great designer is someone that listens. I am someone that knows what I want and he simply created it.” Paired with Prada shoes, it was the perfect graceful-meets-comfortable wedding ensemble.

Minute details added to the personal touch of the wedding, such as thank-you notes hand-illustrated with a picture of Nada and Hamad; traditional tea and coffee servers and sweets to welcome the guests; and a shifting of traditions with all the single men lining up to catch the tossed bouquet, rather than the women, in “the best mannequin challenge,” smiles Nada.

With Bob Marley’s ‘Is This Love’ for Hamad and Nada’s first dance, played by a band flown in from the French Riviera, the answer was evident from the emotion that filled the room. “My priority was for my family and friends to have an amazing time, and that it was an event they will remember forever. I wouldn’t change a thing, and I actually still have wedding blues months after the wedding!” she smiles, surely testament to what was a truly perfect day.
