The poppy fields of Puglia provided the perfect backdrop for Shirin and Gregory’s epic three-day wedding extravaganza in Italy

Before the engagement ring that Shirin Kouros Dewerpe, the 33-year old Swiss-Iranian co-founder of The Good Life Eatery, received from 35-year old Swiss investment banker Gregory Dewerpe reached her left hand, it had been on quite the global adventure. “Gregory was going to propose in New York at the same hotel that we met in but then he and my father were separately hospitalised during the trip. A few weeks later, we went to Mallorca for a wedding and he booked us into the most romantic room at Hotel Cap Rocat, the hotel we stayed in during our first holiday together, and he was going to propose but didn’t. It wasn’t until we checked in at a detox resort called The Ashram in Mallorca for a week that he did it. He decided before our yoga class that it was then and there that he wanted to propose. There was something really organic and natural about it, and it was so real that I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way,” Shirin says of the moment Gregory asked her to be his wife.

The pair first met in 2010 at a party Gregory was hosting in New York. “I think we might have fallen in love that night,” Shirin recounts. “We spent the whole night talking and realised our parents were friends from the late ’70s in Switzerland and that they hadn’t seen each other in 30 years. It was all very surreal.” The pair spent the summer together before going their separate ways and reconnecting in the summer of 2013, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

After seven months of planning, they wed with a three-day extravaganza in Puglia at Masseria San Domenico, beginning with a BBQ by the sea on the Thursday night. “It was supposed to be a relaxed evening, ending around midnight but we ended up dancing until 4am!” The next day, the pair held a La Dolce Vita-themed evening at Masseria Le Carube where they held their first of two wedding ceremonies. “This was the night we did our traditional Aghd ceremony, but I gave it a twist and decided to dance to Persian music with my two best friends whilst walking down the aisle.” Then on the Saturday, Shirin and Gregory exchanged their vows during a black-tie soirée, with the bride donning a custom Emilia Wickstead dress for the occasion. As for how she found the dress, Shirin explains, “I met Emilia, I loved her and I just went with it. I told her what I had in mind and she made it happen. It was incredible!”

After honeymooning in Italy, the pair were due to go on a safari in South Africa the following year as an added celebration but had to cancel the trip due to work commitments. However, Shirin looked on the bright side, “We travel so much anyway, that is not what is important to me. What matters most is that I married the most amazing man.”
