On May 31, eminent guests from the art community in Dubai gathered together at Ayyam Gallery in Alserkal Avenue for an intimate cocktail party to celebrate the gallery’s decade in business. Serving as a major platform for the discussion of the history of contemporary Arab and Iranian aesthetics, over the last 10 years Ayyam Gallery has produced a multitude of curated exhibitions as well as over 80 art publications. Staged for the anniversary was 10:52, a collective exhibition highlighting all 52 artists who have had solo shows at the gallery’s various locations over the last 10 years. Gracing the walls were works by some of Ayyam’s most renowned artists, including modernist Leila Nseir, sculptor Moustafa Ali, painter Samia Halaby, photographer Rula Halawani, and conceptualist Rashed Al Shashai. Working in a range of media from painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video and installation, showcasing the works by these artists reflected upon Ayyam Gallery’s evolution as one of the leading art spaces in the Middle East and North Africa.

Since it opened, the gallery has continually supported the region’s creative talent through innovative projects such as the Shabab Ayyam incubator programme for young artists, which launched the careers of featured painters Kais Salman and Mohannad Orabi. Most recently, Ayyam Gallery founded an artist residency in Dubai structured similarly around artistic mentorship.

10:52 runs until October 29, 2016. www.ayyamgallery.com
