Alserkal Avenue Programming is gearing up to host its annual weekend of art and culture on the 27th and 28th of January. With a presentation of artist workshops, performances, interactive installations and pop-up exhibitions, the fifth edition of Quoz Arts Fest promises to bigger, better and more diverse than ever before. This year showcases an impressive line-up of local and regional artists from a variety of disciplines, including visual art, music, dance and design. Audiences can expect to be inspired and uplifted by the range of creative and cultural producers showcasing their work this year.
Sima Dance Company
The programme for this year’s Fest is particularly rich in contemporary dance and the performing arts. Highlighted will be the return of Dubai-based Sima Dance Company and the addition of regional contemporary dancers, Bassam Abou Diab, Mounir Saeed and Bivin Matthew. The event also aims to provide a platform for up-and-coming local dancers and performers, who will provide impromptu entertainment throughout the streets of Alserkal Avenue over the weekend. Additionally, there will also be another iterative commission unveiled by Alserkal Avenue Programming by Emirati photographer Ammar Al Attar, who over the last few years, has been documenting and rescuing artefacts from some of the oldest movie houses in Dubai.
“This year marks the fifth year for Quoz Arts Fest, and the fact that the event has become stronger every year is a testament to the creative energy that exists in Dubai, Al Quoz and within the Alserkal Avenue community,” says Vilma Jurkute, Director of Alserkal Avenue. “Al Quoz, like so many other industrial areas in cities around the world, has played such an important part in the cultural and social development of this city and community. The art and culture scene found a home here in the early 2000s – a place where artists and artisans could really explore their craft, and creative businesses could grow and become sustainable. As Alserkal Avenue, we wanted to cultivate that creative spirit and this is where our drive to expand and provide a home for creative entrepreneurs has always come from.”
Quoz Arts Fest
