Everyone in the fashion industry knows Mario Testino. Known for his images that sit at the crossroads between portraiture and fine art, Testino’s poignant images have long graced the pages and covers of leading international magazines. Now, in a special exhibition opening on February 25, UAE residents will get the chance to see a rare solo viewing of HEAT – an exhibition bringing together a variety of the photographer’s most prominent images.
Taking place in a pop-up gallery in the heart of Dubai Design District (d3), the concept for HEAT was initiated by local arts patron and businessman Khald AlMheiri, Chairman and Founder of the Ginza Group, and well-known art advisory firm de Pury de Pury. Sharing a mutual love of art and photography, they collaborated to bring Testino’s work to Dubai during this important time for the development of the city’s creative industries. "Mario Testino is probably the most successful and best known photographer alive today,” said curator Simon de Pury. “Moreover, he is a man of multiple talents who is equally gifted as an artist, a photographer, a discerning contemporary art collector, philanthropist, interior decorator, brand consultant and market maker.”

The title for HEAT was coined by Testino himself. It refers to both its Dubai setting as well as the intensity and vibrancy that he encapsulates within his photographs. Included will be a variety of works – many that have been widely exhibited at museums and galleries internationally – alongside more recent pieces that are being shown for the first time. Also displayed will be his acclaimed Alta Moda series of photographs capturing his Peruvian homeland.
“I am so excited that my work will be exhibited in the Middle East, in Dubai, for the first time,” commented Testino. “My endless curiosity has contributed to the diversity of my work, and this curiosity extends to the different cultures, people and places I have explored throughout my career. Looking at this exhibition I feel like you see this and Dubai, with its constantly evolving creativity, is a perfect place to present it. I am eager to see and experience the impact that Dubai will make on my work.”
