Gigi Hadid certainly has a crack squad of girlfriends, which she proved when she hosted Reebok’s #PerfectNever Revolution in Soho, New York this week. The event was part of the sports brand’s Be More Human campaign, with the aim of “uniting women to confront the notion of perfection.”
After Gigi, who was recently named Model of the Year, sparred alongside guests in a mass boxing workout (you can see her in action in our gallery above - the woman is a serious athlete) she sat down with a panel of women to discuss empowerment and the pressure for women to achieve unattainable levels of perfection, both physically and mentally. Gigi’s panel, hosted by the broadcaster and former softball player Jessica Mendoza, included Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, actor, writer and director Lena Dunham, actress Ruby Rose and actress and musician Zoë Kravitz.
What united the women was a simple desire to be seen as good people and hard-working colleagues, an admiration of their mothers and making good impressions.
The pressure of negative coverage and slights on social media was also at the forefront of all the women’s minds. “You start to believe things that are just insane,” said Gigi. “Sometimes I have to literally sit myself down on the bed and tell myself ‘You are a good person. You go into everything you do with a good heart and with good intention and you go to do your job and sometimes people judge you by things they see in a picture.'”
Throughout the event, the Victoria's Secret model and her workout buddies wore pieces from Reebok’s new spring/summer 2017 collection, co-designed by Gigi herself.
