Everyone Is Wearing '90s Snap Clips Again
28April2019
Your hair from the '90s is alive and well in 2019. We've seen the likes of Alexander Wang bringing back the claw clip, and Prabal Gurung resurrecting the comb-headband. The latest throwback hair accessory starting to bubble up on Instagram, where all old trends boomerang, is the snap barrette (also called the contour clip or snap clip). One look at the triangular hairpin will hit you with some major high school nostalgia.
While the clips never disappeared completely, they've just been worn by children (as a quick search on Instagram for #snapclips shows). Now, more and more influencers are steadily bringing them back with a Cool Girl seal of approval.
Solange actually paved the way for snap clips' return when she wore several to accessorise her hair at the CFDA Awards back in 2016; likely a reference to her album cover for A Seat at the Table:

She was an anomaly then. Now, you can't seem to scroll down Instagram without seeing snap clips—typically worn on either side of a very '90s centre part:
Another way to style the hair using snap clips is to wear them all on one side:
