The founder and CEO of her namesake label talks Bazaar Bride through a typical New York day

24 Hours With... Reem Acra — One Of The World's Most Celebrated Bridal Designers

6:00 A.M. The first thing I do when I wake up is say “good morning” to my husband. Then I have an Arabic coffee. My day is never typical, each day varies depending on my projects and deadlines. I was born to be a late riser, but my work has dictated that I become an early riser. My secret to waking up refreshed and revived is turning off my phone straight away when I go to bed. And I like to use La Mer’s The Concentrate serum.

6:30 A.M. I have breakfast. I really enjoy manoushe. I like to read Business of Fashion and The Wall Street Journal. My morning routine goes like this; I shower, blow dry my hair, use a curling iron, put on make-up, and get dressed for the the office. I never have time to dress, so I am more of a wear-black-when-in-doubt kind of person. My typical day-to-day outfit is black trousers (I love Prada trousers) and a black top. I accessorise with a smile. I do cherish many pieces from my brand though, like the tops with touches of embroidery and our beaded sweatshirts. I check my emails before I get to the office and I call my friends, overseas. I love looking out of the window to take in the New York scene before heading into work.

7:45 A.M. I leave for work often alongside my Gucci bag although I do change it up depending on what I need.
8:00 A.M. The commute to work is quite short — it’s 10-minutes by car. My office space is organised and quiet, we typically do not have music as quiet allows us to concentrate and focus on creativity. As no single day is the same, I do not divide my day but rather manage my time through calls, emails, meetings and fittings etc., depending on the daily requirements.
9:00 A.M. I will have my first cappuccino — skim, one shot. I am very driven and focused at work; I am a boss that sets expectations and holds everyone accountable. I travel quite a lot based on the demands of the business, and the artistic and creative elements are my favourite parts of my job.

2:00 P.M. I typically get three minutes for lunch, I eat alone in the office and usually have yogurt.
7:30 P.M. I leave work, my usual evening is dinner (made by my husband), reading, and then bed. I’m currently reading Story on a Plate — The Delicate Art of Plating Dishes. If I do go out it’s with my husband, my friends or my work colleagues. Since there are many initiatives going on in my business I tend to limit my evening social engagements. For evening events I usually wear my own designs. If I have time for television, I love Homeland. I use Peter Thomas Roth’s Water Drench eye patches at the end of a long day.
11:00 P.M. Off to bed and I switch off my phone.
