It was a tradition-soaked four-day Indian wedding in Delhi for Bazaar’s former assistant and her husband

“It truly was fate,” says 27 year old marketing manager, Palak. She met her now husband, Rishabh, 32, a managing director, on a blind date while in Delhi visiting family. “I was there for the week, my hands were full because of a friend’s wedding, and I was about to cancel the date when my best friend called and said, ‘Just go!’ Anyway, I walked into the restaurant, saw him sitting there and I just knew he was the one.”

After a 12-month long-distance courtship between Dubai and Delhi, Rishabh proposed in the temple of his home on May 13, 2018. “It was so personal, pure and romantic,” Palak recalls. Knowing his bride-to-be’s traditional values, he had already asked, and been granted, her parent’s permission.

With nine months to plan the four-event extravaganza in Delhi, for no less than 1,500 guests, parents and friends on both sides were enlisted to help. Fortunately a calm and pragmatic approach from the bride meant everything went off without a hitch. “If I could give advice, I would say don’t let the wedding get bigger than your relationship. It does get overwhelming sometimes, but as long as your partner is by your side and supportive, you’ll be fine,” Palak tells Bazaar Bride.

The events included a roaring ‘20s themed party dubbed ‘The Youngsters’ — for which the bride wore a beautiful Zuhair Murad gown. This was followed by ‘The Cocktail’ — a modern-themed event with live music, for which the bride wore a silver lehnga with a dramatic nine-foot trail by Falguni Shane Peacock. ‘The Mehndi’ was a more intimate affair filled with white calla lilies and decor inspired by laid-back luxury of El Chiringuito in Dubai — the groom’s favourite beach club. For this, the couple entrusted the aesthetics to fashion designer and event visionary Varun Bahl. Last but not least, there was ‘The Wedding’ which was entirely Palak’s father’s vision. “I’m so grateful he gave me such a beautiful day,” she tells us. Going on to describe the 200,000 red roses, fairy lights, blown-glass chandeliers, and velvet drapes and couches” which set the scene. Adding to the majestic feel was the fashion, and in particular the bride’s Sabyasachi. “His clothes are beautiful and make you look so elegant and regal. I felt like a princess.”

They described their day as a “truly magical” experience. Every detail of every ceremony and celebration had been considered. From the first dance to U2’s Ordinary Love and the three-tier white chocolate cake with pink lilies, to the invitations which had been sent out to guests with Bateel dates and Kashmiri scarves, to the international and Indian cuisine.

The couple chose to honeymoon in Courchevel and Monaco so they could begin their journey as a married couple with relaxation, and a side of adventure.
