Benefit Cosmetics knows eyebrows like nobody’s business. Besides its in-store services (waxing, tweezing and tinting), the brand offers endless products for every single brow personality – from the over-plucked to the under-shaped – and now they bring us a virtual Brow Try-On experience, by way of a cutting-edge augmented reality tool.
Filed under 'things you never knew you needed', it transpires as a nifty addition to your beauty routine, serving to demo how your eyebrows would look when styled differently – be it bolder, more distinctly arched, feathered or au naturel.
Before you dive into brow styling, though, it pays to go back to basics and get a natural shape and shade perfect for you. With this in mind, we asked the Benefit Cosmetics head make-up artists and brow expert, Lisa Potter-Dixon, to give us her top tips.
How to get the perfect brow shape and shade for YOU
“In my opinion, your brows should be the same colour as the darkest hair on your head,” Potter-Dixon says. “Have them tinted, this will make them look thicker and fuller in an instant.”
The shape is equally – if not more – important. “The best way to get the perfect brow shape for your face is to ‘map’ your brows,” the brow authority explains.
To do this, follow her steps below:
1. “Hold a pencil parallel to the side of your nose. Meet the top of the pencil to the inner corner of the eye – the inner edge of your brows should start here. Using a brow pencil, mark this point."
2. “To determine the highest peak of your arch, place the pencil at an angle from the outside corner of your nose through the centre of your iris. Using a brow pencil, mark this point."
3. “Hold the pencil diagonally from the outside corner of the nose to the outside corner of your eye, will then tell you where your brow should end. Using a brow pencil, mark this point."
4. “Using the brow pencil markings as a guide for plucking is a great way to avoid the dreaded over plucking situation and is also a great way to understand your personal brow shape and fill in where necessary.”
Watch the expert’s ‘brow basics’ tutorial below for a detailed demonstration and then, as she adds, “to style your brows, log onto our Brow Try-On app, to try all styles and see which best suits you.”
