The iconic fashion house’s latest offering is positively delicious

If you ever wanted to have your cake and eat it too, this is your chance. Moschino’s Autumn/Winter 2020 show, which premiered in Milan Fashion Week, has travelled back in time for inspiration and the results are spectacular.

Drawing elements of style from 1800s French court fashion, creative director Jeremy Scott has created a collection that is bold in every way. Models glided down the runway in everything from elaborately embroidered denim suits to leather evening gowns. The colour palette was as diverse as the fabrics, ranging from candy pink to vivid jade green. Towering wigs in matching shades accompanied every outfit.

In a playful reference to Queen Marie Antoinette, who famously said “let them eat cake”, several ensembles were topped with dessert-themed accessories, or decorated in icing patterns. It’s hard to pick a favourite from this baroque parade, but the fan-shaped clutch with its cheeky nod to the Rose of Versailles (a cult classic anime) might come close.

The extravagance didn’t stop there – both the runway and the front row welcomed big names, including Instagram idols Gigi Hadid and her sister Bella Hadid.

Avant-garde yet vintage, Moschino’s collection might be the answer to the age-old question: how do you indulge without breaking your diet?
