The US Is Officially Getting Their First-Ever Modest Fashion Week
The three-day event was founded by an immigrant from Malaysia who wants to see “creativity, diversity and authenticity” in fashion be brought to America
Following in the footsteps of Abu Dhabi, Istanbul and Milan Fashion Week, the US is finally getting their first-ever dedicated modest fashion week.
Kicking off on 30 November as part of during Art Basel 2019 at the Intercontinental Hotel Miami, Miami Modest Fashion Week will bring together brands, retailers, influencers and models “to unite the industry’s best talents in the most dynamic strategy which will translate into stronger shows for designers, buyers, and brands in the modest fashion industry for future generations,” according to the organisers.
The three-day event was founded by Norsham Mohamad-Garcia, an immigrant who was born and raised in a small village in Malaysia and has called Miami her home for the last 13 years.
“I believe that Modest-style Fashion Week will cause a wow effect and will resonate with many,” Norsham tells Riamoda. “I am very proud of this project. We believe in education, creativity, diversity and authenticity, the future. In America, there are a lot of mass markets, behind which identity is lost. Modest designers are very creative and create unique clothes. Americans are very fond of original clothes, the thirst for exclusivity is a big plus for modest designers.”
Miami Modest Fashion Week is running from 30 November to 2 December.
