Just in time for prime jet-set season, Rosetta Getty is releasing a capsule collection with Moda Operandi, marking the first "buy now, wear now" offering from the designer.
Getty has found a quick fan base with an ideal duality — innovative designs that also offer ease — and a new kind of minimalism that's still about clean lines, but rarely about what's expected. "[The Rosetta Getty] woman is classic and minimal with a youthful spirit. I am inspired by women who have a strong sense of self," the designer explains.
This collection in particular was inspired by iconic women well-known for their inherent style and who hit close to home: "I was inspired by archive imagery of the Getty women on vacation, mostly in Italy. There's a stripe that was developed from a photo of Gisela Getty, Balthazar's [Getty's husband] mother, that I saw in her book, The Twins. The red comes from an iconic image of Talitha in Rome wearing a georgette gown. Otherwise, it's quite neutral. The idea was to keep it light and casual enough to build a timeless travel wardrobe."
That wardrobe is about hitting the mainstays like day-to-night dresses mixed with some welcome surprises — "a lightweight kaftan, a versatile trouser and a swimsuit that can be styled easily with ready to wear. I was very conscious of making the capsule swimwear styles elevated enough to work with an outfit off the beach." Those swimsuits, Getty's first foray into the market, are a standout of the 17-look collection. "I've wanted to design swimwear for quite a while and I'm excited I was able to introduce it here. I am based in LA and love to travel to warm climates — it felt natural for me to expand into swim."
Where will the LA-based designer be road testing the collection first? "Definitely Tuscany. The Getty family has going to there for generations and Balthazar and I bring the kids every summer. My time in Italy has inspired the mood of the capsule — it's leisurewear that still feels formal and effortless. I'll be hosting an annual event again early July and it will be the perfect place for guests to play around with these new pieces."
The Rosetta Getty x Moda Operandi swimwear collection will be available to shop on June 24th at modaoperandi.com.
