Sophia Webster has been announced as this year's recipient of the BFC Fashion Fund.
The shoe designer beat out tough competition from Emilia Wickstead, Mother of Pearl, Osman and Prism. She will receive 12 months of high-level mentoring as well as a Dhs1,037,351 grant to invest in her business.
"It feels amazing!" said Webster. "I'm so shocked; I still can't quite take it in. This will just make such a massive difference to our business. The store is next on the agenda, we only just got the keys last week, so that's our next focus. After that, our team is growing and we've really outgrown our space so next will be a new office. It's incredible."
"Congratulations to Sophia Webster who has deservingly received this year's BFC Designer Fashion Fund," Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, added. "The judging committee was impressed by her brilliant talent and thorough business acumen; seeing great potential for developing her label into an internationally acclaimed British brand. Sophia has an amazing ability to turn accessories into masterpieces and we are thrilled to support her at an exciting time of growth."
Webster is known for her whimsical yet elegant shoe designs, with famous fans including Cara Delevingne, Hailee Steinfeld and Rita Ora. Previous winners of the award include Mary Katrantzou, Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane, Erdem and Peter Pilotto.
