For his spring/summer 17 collection, tilted “Areef”, Lebanese designer Hussein Bazaza told the story of a mermaid who falls in love with a sailor but ends up dying as she cannot survive out of water. The collection notes described the morale of the collection as being "all about the dark side of love and its sad endings."
Consequently, the collection had a distinct grunge theme, punctuated with graceful silhouettes in intricate black lace, and feminine detailing was expertly juxtaposed with menswear textiles such as poplin and suiting. Through print, Bazaza, who was recently stocked on Farfetch, incorporated mermaid tails showcased in a colour palette of vibrant greens, reds and blues which were in stark contrast to the collection's overall dark and moody hues.
To mesh with the vibe and spirit of the collection, the models sported emerald green lips (with an oh-so on-trend hint of shimmer), created by MAC, and sleek, pulled-back hair. Additionally, Bazaza beautifully accessorised all his runway looks in collaboration with regional designers using Poise Designs for shoes, and Rula Galayini for bags.
