The Indian brand is a huge advocate of sustainability and empowering woman by teaching them design skills and finding them work

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle premiered in Mumbai this week, and Freida Pinto, Christian Bale, Kareena Kapoor Khan were all in attendance to promote their latest flick. The release marked India’s first-ever world premiere for a major Hollywood blockbuster, and to mark the occasion, Freida Pinto chose a traditional saree, as a nod to her home country.

The former Bazaar cover star chose a design from Mumbai-based designer Anita Dongre – a favourite of both Priyanka Chopra and Hilary Clinton. She styled the look with jewels from another Indian brand, Amrapali.

Freida wore a black saree from the autumn/winter 2018 Odyssey collection. “The quintessential black saree is to us, what the Little Black Dress is to the west – it’s a must-have,” says designer Anita Dongre. “This season, we’ve reinterpreted the quintessential black saree with resham, dori and our signature craft.”

Priyanka Chopra has been spotted in wearing thelabel several times before. The Quantico star celebrated Diwali with her family wearing a traditional yellow number from the India-based brand that is a huge advocate of empowering women and sustainability in the fashion industry. The designer created The Anita Dongre Foundation in 2015, which helps train tribal women professionaly, teaching them design skills and ultimately finding them a place in the atelier’s workforce.
