The Harper’s Bazaar Arabia June 2026 Issue Editor’s Letter: I Want To Be Famous
Are you made for the limelight?
For many, it’s an inspiration. For others, fame arrives as an unexpected consequence of excelling at what they love. But what happens when your calling places you in the spotlight, and suddenly your every move is analysed, debated and often misunderstood?
It’s a reality our cover star, Nadine Njeim, knows all too well. Through heartbreak, personal reinvention and even the trauma of surviving the Beirut Port explosion, much of her journey has unfolded in public. Her response? Entering what she calls her “I don’t care” era.“ People see the success, the spotlight, the strong woman,” she tells us ahead of the launch of her highly anticipated series Momken. “Nobody knows what I went through to become who I am today. I know my flaws, but I also know my worth.”
Meanwhile, Yasmine El-Abd is navigating a different chapter. We photographed her just one day before her debut on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, a milestone that brings its own level of visibility. Her coping mechanism is simple: keeping her circle small and grounded, with the support of her ‘momager’ and close-knit family her “greatest blessing”. It’s a timely reminder that the red carpet is about more than fashion; as Nojoud AlRumaihi argues in her thoughtful op-ed, choosing to wear Arab designers on global stages such as Cannes is also a powerful act of cultural representation, one that helps bring regional creativity and craftsmanship into the international spotlight.
Social media has made all of us visible in ways previous generations could never have imagined – this is probably one of the reasons that Foundayo, the new GLP-1 weight loss pill, is generating conversation in the aesthetic as well as health industries. We share, curate and comment, often forgetting that a snapshot is never the whole story. Perhaps the lesson from this issue is simple: behind every image, headline and profile is a person whose journey we cannot fully see. In an age where everyone is watching, we could learn a lesson from Nadine: your greatest strength may be knowing your worth regardless of who is looking.
