The Manipal graduate’s take on a canvas product awarded him a three-month internship at the Schwitzke Group in Germany

Held in partnership with four of Dubai’s top universities, American University in Dubai, Heriot-Watt University Dubai, Manipal University and Zayed University Dubai, students this year competed for the coveted 2016 Marina Design Star title by re-imagining and re-constructing this years’ Canvas Product, a reclaimed wood and metal side table.

A distinguished panel of judges, including Maryam Al Suwaidi and Sulaiman Al Thehli, Founders of Design Talk - Interior Design Studio; Tarik Al Zaharna, Director, T.ZED Architects (and designer of this year’s Downtown Design tent); Maliha Nishat, Design Director, DWP UAE; Manuel Arnaut, Editor In Chief - Architectural Digest, Sahil Vakil, Director - Procurement, Marina Home Interiors and Karl Schwitzke, Founder, Schwitzke & Partner, trimmed down the entries down to a shortlist of 10 finalists, whose designs went to a public online vote to select a final winner.

AbdulGhani Ansari’s take on a reclaimed wood and metal side table challenged the dimensions of what he had to work with and allowed him the space to reconstruct it with creativity and excellence and therefore gaining him entry into the professional world of design.
