Here at Team Bazaar we're pretty much down to shop wherever, whenever we can. Whether on mobile (convenient) or desktop (hello lunchbreak) we don't mind how we spend our dirhams, just as long as we can. And now, online shopping is set to become even easier thanks to Instagram's newest feature.
As it stands, third-party companies such as LikeToKnow. It is the only way to 'shop' from Instagram and as it stands its not a direct-to-basket approach. That's all set to change with the announcement that the social media app will roll out a new feature from this week that will allow consumers to purchase within the app itself.
Having partnered with brands like Kate Spade, Warby Parker and JackThreads, Instagram is allowing brands to feature their products in a more in-depth way (with room for longer product descriptions) which they believe will in turn help consumers with their purchasing decisions. Instagram wrote alongside the announcement that internal surveys that revealed that "the vast majority of purchases take a day or longer" with only 21% of purchases actually completed within a 24 hour period.
With the new feature, users will be able to select the "Tap To View" option on their screens and that will bring up all products that are shoppable within that post (this can be up to five per photo). All prices will be displayed automatically and when you click on a specific product, you'll be taken to the detailed description. From here, if you choose 'Shop Now', you'll be taken directly to the product on the brand's website.
The test phase is being rolled out in the US this week, and if successful, will then hopefully be rolled out to the rest of the world with a wider variety of brands taking part.
