After her recent visit to Dubai to launch the first ever Show Beauty Pop-Up Blow Dry Bar in DIFC, entrepreneur and mother of one Tamara Ecclestone shares with Bazaar an insight into her daily life. From waking up and making breakfast, to traveling the world and running her own global beauty empire, there’s nothing the daughter of billionaire Bernie Ecclestone cannot do.
6:00 A.M. I am an early riser so I wake up around sunrise at my home in Kensington Palace Gardens in London, where I live with my daughter Sophia, 2, and my husband Jay. I sleep in Pratesi linen and I like to keep my bedroom clean, but there are always a lot of my daughter’s toys lying around. First on my agenda is making a cup of green tea and then I check my emails and wait for my daughter to wake up shortly after. As a family we have breakfast together before Jay leaves for work. I always have the same thing for breakfast each day – I love porridge. We have a dog called Teddy, he is an adorable Maltipoo crossbreed, that we bought last year. He has breakfast at the same time as us and then enjoys a bit of a play. Then it’s mother and daughter time, we laze in the lounge watching cartoons on television, playing games and having cuddles. This is my favourite part of the day – I cherish playing together before the day gets into full swing.
I love all things beauty but I have discovered since having my daughter that being low maintenance and keeping it simple is the best way to start the day. I have become quite good at paring back the day make-up routine and I save the full glamour for evenings. On a daily basis I don’t wear make-up unless it’s for a special event, so I have a quick shower and if I haven’t got time to wash my hair I refresh with Show Beauty Dry Shampoo, tie my hair up, apply Dermalogica moisturiser and then apply Revitalash. This eyelash treatment has become my favourite go-to product, because I have stopped wearing false lashes and it is really working for me to help my own lashes grow back. When I am feeling like a beauty treat I go to Show Dry in London for a blow-dry, usually twice a week, and I have a manicure and pedicure once every two weeks.
8:00 A.M. My routine for getting ready of a morning is super quick – you have to be as a working mum. I get dressed based on what I have happening on a particular day, keeping in mind I also spend a lot of the day running after my daughter, so comfort is the main priority. I tend to wear a lot of black and grey for practicality. My style these days is much more casual and relaxed. I don’t really follow trends, I like classic staples that I can be comfortable in and look presentable when I am out and about. I love Alexander McQueen dresses because they are always a beautiful cut and classic.
9:00 A.M. I drive from home to the office in Notting Hill, which only takes five minutes. I switch between a Birkin and a Céline handbag when it comes to work. I tend to need something quite large to carry everything I need for myself and my daughter. Designer handbags are my biggest indulgence and my Hermés Birkin’s take pride of place in my closet, I have about 20 of these.
9:30 A.M. I like my workspace to be organised and quiet, I light Diptyque candles every day to give the space a sense of calm. I have worked really hard on my Show Beauty range. I definitely felt like there was a gap in the market for luxury haircare products. I wanted to produce great products with beautiful packaging. My range is perfect to display on the bathroom vanity or to give as a luxury gift to friends and family. At the office, the first thing I do is run through the day’s schedule with staff, but every day is different so I don’t really have a set routine. I don’t have much spare time to read blogs during the day but I try to catch up on industry news on social media when I can. For work, I travel a lot between the US, UAE and Hong Kong. This time I was in Dubai to showcase my Show Beauty range and also launch a pop-up at Four Seasons Hotel DIFC open until mid-January. The hotel is in a great location so I think it will attract a lot of locals and women in the Middle East who love big blowouts and glamorous make-up. I can’t resist shopping in Dubai and when I am there I head to The Dubai Mall – they have a whole level dedicated to kids stocked with amazing clothes. I also stock up on make-up and haircare products. When I’m not travelling the best part about my job is seeing our customers having a lovely experience and enjoying our products"
12:30 A.M. I tend to have lunch quite early and I aways make sure to eat lunch with my daughter. I try to eat as healthy as possible and my go-to dish is chicken and quinoa, or salad. My favourite place to eat in London is Scalini, with my sister Petra and our children. Then it’s back to the office and if I am feeling hungry in the afternoon I always snack on Joe & Seph’s popcorn – it’s delicious!
4:00 P.M. I like to leave the office relatively early so I can get home in time to bathe my daughter, prepare dinner and get ready for bed. My favourite way to spend an evening is with my husband and daughter. I mix it up between cooking and having meals prepared by my private chef. I love making fresh pasta and baking with my daughter.
7:00 P.M. I used to love attending social events in the evenings in the past but now I never really go out anymore – everything has changed since I’ve had a child. If I do go out then it is usually to a restaurant with friends, or I love hosting dinner parties at my home. When it comes to getting ready for an evening out I like a really glamorous look – I don’t really do the in-between. I am either super relaxed or super glamorous. I love getting my hair done and trying out different make-up looks. In the daytime I am often running around in leggings so if on the rare occasion I go out of an evening I like to make sure I look completely different. For me I feel most glamorous with my hair down with big, bouncy, loose waves. For events I love anything by Alexander McQueen or Balmain, paired with Christian Louboutin heels. I think you can glam up an outfit with plenty of accessories. I accessorise with jewellery and I have some pieces that I treasure that have been handed down to me from my mother.
9:00 P.M. I am in bed quite early. I like to try to get eight hours sleep each night but Sophia wakes in the night so it can be quite a broken sleep. Before bed I like relaxing watching movies and reading. My daughter loves Frozen, so we re-watch that quite a lot.
9:30 P.M. Before bedtime I do one last check of my emails before it’s lights out.
