For art curator Randa Al Behesh, there’s a certain little something she likes to add to her outfits as a final touch. “I love scarves! I collect silk and cashmere scarves from Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Gucci and Valentino. I have about 15 and I love to wear them or tie them to my bags for a little extra fun.” On the rest of her outfit, she says, “I would say I have two main styles: I’m either in a leather jacket with jeans or a Dior gown, there’s no in-between. But no matter what I always wear my sky-high heels.”

Her favourite pair comes courtesy of Givenchy. “They’re the black shark lock platform and they’re so comfortable despite being five inches high.” That’s not to say that Randa doesn’t sometimes suffer for her style. “I love my Oscar de la Renta glass tassel earrings. They weigh a tonne but they’re well worth the pain.” Having been taught by her mother to “invest in high quality pieces that will last a lifetime, as opposed to buying fast fashion that goes out of style quickly,” Randa’s favourite designers include Valentino, Victoria Beckham and Roland Mouret but she often resorts to tailoring the items to get the perfect fit. “My biggest struggle when it comes to clothing is finding them in my size because I’m very petite,” she says. “I usually have to take my clothes to be altered or shortened. Finding silhouettes that don’t drown my small frame can be difficult.”

One piece that doesn’t drown her is her show-stopping look she chose for the 2016 Dubai International Film Festival. “The printed green cape from Moscow-based brand Regalia that I wore that night made me feel regal and it was exactly my style. I had a vision for this look in mind and it materialised exactly the way I imagined.”

Furthermore, the look was the perfect example of all of Randa’s worlds coming together. “I am from a mixed background (Emirati/Russian), I married a French-Canadian, and I lived in Moscow for most of my life, so I have taken the best of fashion from my worlds. Also, I feel that I am a bridge between two very different cultures and it is a privilege to understand both.”
