Harper’s Bazaar: What was the brief you were given for the make-up for the show?
Vimi Joshi: We were given image references for make-up with a brief that defined Stella McCartney as a brand. The models had to look sexy, modern and effortlessly cool which promoted an understated and natural look.

HB: How closely did you work with Stella on developing/fine-tuning the final look?
VJ: I worked closely with Stella’s team who were instrumental in deciding the final look. We took some time deciding the lip colour as the event will be outside during the night.

HB: How would you describe the final look?
VJ: I would describe the look as fresh, natural, radiant skin with a touch of liner. The colours used are peach and cream. There is a softness to the make-up, and yet it’s still very elegant.

HB: How long have you been working on the look for?
VJ: I got the inspirational mood board two weeks ago and have been researching Stella McCartney’s previous shows. She definitely has an aesthetic, and I wanted to ensure that Dubai represented her international vision.

HB: What products did you use to create the look?
VJ: M.A.C Studio Water Weight Foundation was used to create the “no make-up” look on the skin that Stella was looking for. This serum foundation gives you beautiful skin whilst covering all blemishes. We used M.A.C Upward Lash Mascara to build up the lashes and a thin eyeliner was created to define the eyes. On the cheeks and eyelids, we used Blusher in Peaches and for the lips, Lip Pencil in Spice with Love Nectar Lip Glass over the top.

HB: Talk us through how we can re-create this look at home…
VJ:
Skin: Apply a generous layer of M.A.C Fix+ Spray to hydrate the skin. Mix a few drops of Care Blends Essential Oils into the Oil Control Lotion and massage well into the skin. Using brush #190 apply M.A.C Studio Water Weight Foundation all over the face ensuring that you match your body colour to your face colour. Lightly powder down the T-zone using M.A.C Mineralize Skin Finish Powder.
Cheeks: On the apples of the cheeks, apply Blusher in Peaches.
Eyes: Line the eyes with Fluid Liner in Black Track, extending slightly to create a soft kitten flick. Groom the brows with Eye Brow pencil in Lingering and set with Clear Brow Set.  Then lightly wash Blusher in Peaches using brush #239 over the eyelids. Then, apply Upward Lash Mascara to the upper lashes only.
Lips: Line and fill in the entire lip area with Lip Pencil in Spice and then apply Lip glass in Love Nectar.

HB: How big is your team for the evening?
VJ: I have a team of six make-up artists who are instrumental in the success of the show.

HB: What’s the feeling like backstage at these big shows? Do you enjoy the experience or are you relieved once it’s all done?
VJ: I love the energy backstage at these shows. They create a lot of excitement and generate a lot of buzz. I feel honoured to be part of the creative process.

HB: What’s your number one backstage beauty trick?
VJ: Mixing a few drops of essential oils into the moisturiser.  You can powder as much as you want later and the skin still looks dewy.
