Exclusive: Roland Mouret On His Resort 2017 Collection

Harper’s Bazaar Arabia speaks exclusively to the designer whose Resort 2017 Collection launches this week in BySymphony

Harper’s Bazaar Arabia: How would you describe this new Resort collection?

Roland Mouret: My Resort 2017 collection is a juxtaposition of nature and power. The lines of the silhouette are simple and elegant, but they are met with bold metallic, boucle and geometric fabrics.

HBA: In what way is it tailored to the Middle Eastern woman?

RM: This collection has a lot of volume and flare and it also has beautiful, intricate details. It’s modern and direct, which allows the woman to bring her own personality to the pieces. You need a special type of confidence to do that and that is exactly what the Middle Eastern woman has.

HBA: What was your inspiration for the collection?

RM: There’s a hidden gem tucked away in Mayfair called Mount Street Gardens. It’s full of such a variety of flowers and the unmistakeable splendour of their vivid colours. Digitally printed butterflies adorn a handful of the pieces, whilst others are layered with lace floral motifs, all in a nod to nature’s beauty.

HBA: What is different about dressing the Middle Eastern woman?

RM: The Middle Eastern woman is elegant, modern and avant garde, and she is becoming a key player in the international market. I love how she plays with fashion and isn’t afraid to stand out.

HBA: What do you admire about their style?

RM: The way they appreciate all the different details of the pieces and the boldness of the colours. They come alive in the clothes but never compromise their personal style.

HBA: There’s a lot of cut out and off the shoulder pieces – is that a look that’s here to stay?

When a woman doesn’t give away too much about herself, it keeps an air of mystery and class. It is all in the attitude and leaving a bit of privacy in her demeanour.
