Style meets function

Launched late last year MISK nursery was created by Arab-American designer Dr. Dala Kakos to stylishly merge heritage values with a modern silhouette. Creating artisan cribs, the brand uses a highly-skilled team of third-generation Armenian woodworkers in Lebanon to handcraft their signature designs with natural and grey wood options.

An extensive amount of thought and care goes into the creation of every piece with only chemical-free natural hardwood used as the main material, laser-cut by hand to ensure soft edges to protect tiny hands and feet. Embedded with imported mother of pearl, Dr. Kakos wanted to use the external design as a nod to classic interiors in the Middle East. "Mother of pearl has a ubiquity in traditional art and design in the Middle East and beyond and its craftmanship has been part of Lebanese culture for centuries, with many homes featuring at least one piece of mother of pearl furniture."

Sold at Level Kids, the brand only creates pieces that could and should become family heirlooms, born out of Dr. Kakos' frustrations at finding a crib for her own children when they were born that would be beautiful and functional in equal measures. "I wanted my child to have something artistic with a mix of modern and heritage designs," she revealed. Breaking away from traditional boxed shapes the cribs come in three unique styles to fit easily and stylishly into any nursery.
