Miss Universe To Allow Married Women And Mothers To Participate in The Pageant

The beauty pageant is lifting the restrictions starting from 2023 onwards

In a landmark decision, the Miss Universe beauty pageant is expanding its criteria for eligibility, meaning that marital and parental status will no longer be a matter of concern for potential participants.

The change will officially be implemented from the beginning of 2023.

Since the conception of the pageant in 1952, regulations have required winners to be single and with no children for not just the duration of the competition, but also for as long as they hold the title.

The change is being hailed as a huge step towards creating a more inclusive platform of representation for womanhood, which comes in all different forms.

The Miss Universe beauty pageant is one of the most popular international pageants in the world, broadcast in more than 160 countries and watched every year by millions. In its 72nd year, it will host women from several different walks of life.
