Purificacion Garcia Turns Iconic Landmarks in Saudi and Doha into Digital Art

The brand has partnered with Saudi 3D artist Amr Khaled Taha to showcase their Origami collection

Purificacion Garcia has partnered with Saudi-born digital artist Amr Khaled Taha to pay homage to iconic landmarks in the region. Celebrating World Origami Day on November 11, Taha has created moving 3D computer generated imagery of pieces from the brand’s Origami collection interacting with notable buildings in Jeddah, Riyadh and Doha.

The result is an impressive blend of architecture meets fashion, showcasing the angles and curves of impeccable design work.

One of the videos shows Purificacion Garcia’s Origami tote bag emerging from Riyadh’s Financial Tower on a mechanical arm, before going back in and popping out again in a different colourway. Another shows a bag from the collection using Doha’s Crescent Tower as a fairground ride, while the final video is set at Jeddah’s Al-Tahlyah Roundabout.

These landmarks were chosen by Taha due to being nostalgic yet modern architectural builds.

Commenting on the collaboration, he said: “I love to turn something normal into an unusual piece of art, with my work, the sky is the limit!”

The Origami bag has become iconic in its own right since it was first created in 2014. Purificacion Garcia fell in love with the art of origami after her first fashion show in Tokyo in 1990, and this is the inspiration behind the handcrafted bag – high-quality ovine Napa leather allows the flexibility and form to create its folds. The Origami collection now features ready-to-wear, footwear and handbags.
