UAE To Send Field Hospital, Search-and-Rescue Teams To Turkey and Syria

Emirates News Agency confirms the UAE will be joining the international community in providing relief efforts after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake caused mass devastation throughout the region in the early hours of Monday morning

Standing in solidarity with all those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai, both shared statements of support across social media yesterday.

“I extend my sincere condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives in today’s devastating earthquake. The UAE stands in solidarity with the Turkish and Syrian people, and we pray that God grants a speedy recovery to those who have been injured,” Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan tweeted on Monday evening.

The tweet came hours after it was confirmed her had spoken with both President Bashar al-Assad of Syria and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, sharing his condolences and sympathies, and confirming the UAE stands in solidary with all those who were affected by the earthquakes.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also shared a post in the early evening hours. It was confirmed by WAM that the ruler of Dubai would be directing the dispatch of urgent humanitarian aid worth AED50 million to Syria.

On Tuesday morning, WAM confirmed the UAE would be sending support to Turkey and Syria in the form of a Field Hospital and Search-and-Rescue teams.

“The international cooperation that enabled aid to reach Syria will be needed now more than ever, and some countries are already sending help. The UAE is to send a field hospital and search-and-rescue teams to Turkey, with another team going to Syria,” WAM reports. “Rescue teams from the Netherlands and Romania are on their way to Turkey as part of an EU response.”

It has also been reported that Kuwait has confirmed it will be sending support and relief, while Qatar has confirmed it will be sending an airlift, relief aid, tents and winter supplies.

Meanwhile, celebrities like Turkish actors Hande Erçel and Kerem Bürsin, Antonio Banderas and others took to social media to share their support.

“A solidarity hug to the Turkish and Syrian people. All the encouragement for them because of the tragedy that has struck them over the last few hours,” Antonio wrote in the caption of his post.
