Basma
Making her directorial debut, Fatima Al-Banawi stars as Basma, the 26 year old daughter of a man who is suffering from paranoid delusions. Through this film, Fatima aims to highlight mental disorders in the Middle East, attempting to erase stigma and provide relief to those suffering. A Harvard graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Theological Studies, Fatima combines her passion for making beautiful and meaningful art with her love and interest in Psychology.

HWJN
Based on a young adult novel by Saudi writer Ibraheem Abbas, this fantasy film features elements of Arabic culture and folklore in a modern day context. HWJN follows the story of a kind-hearted Jinn who develops an unexpected bond with Sawsan, a young female medical student. When his secret is exposed, he finds himself setting on an epic journey filled with adventure and battles with ancient evils to maintain the balance between the his world and Sawsan’s. Directed by Yasir Al Yasiri, HWJN opened Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival.
HWJN is all set to release on January 4, 2024
Finding Ola Season 2
The beloved comedy show Finding Ola, starring Tunisian-Egyptian Actress and Lawyer Hend Sabry, is expected to return on Netflix with a new season in 2024. The slice of life TV show is adapted from Hend’s hit comedy show Ayza Atgawez, which followed the story of a woman obsessed with the idea of marriage. Finding Ola now focuses on Ola’s life after her recent divorce, leading her to a messy up-and-down journey to self-discovery.

My Driver and I
Set in the late 1900s, the film My Driver and I, follows the story of a young Saudi girl named Salma who comes from a wealthy family, and a Sudanese man named Gamar who moves to Jeddah to work as Salma’s driver. As days go by, the two find themselves developing an intimate friendship. This story about finding home and family in the most unexpected places will be aired on OSN TV and streamed on OSN+. The film is written and directed by Ahd Kamel, and is co-produced by Jeddah-based companies Yellow Camel and Millimeter.

Blue 52
Egyptian Producer and Director Ali El Arabi’s debut feature film Blue 52, blends elements of fiction with reality. The movie follows the story of a young Indian boy named Ashish who hopes to break free from the shackles of his strict father to fulfill his dream of meeting his favourite football player. With his mother’s support, Ashish embarks on a journey away from his hometown Kochi to meet Messi at Qatar’s World Cup in 2022, leading him to experience the outside world for the first time. Bollywood actors Neha Dhupia and Adil Hussain will play the boy’s parents in the film. Initially set to be a documentary, the movie has now developed into a scripted feature.
Haj Metwali’s Family
This classic Egyptian drama is set to return to TV this Ramadan with an opportunity to gain another generation of admirers. The show will take a generational leap with a new cast and storyline, following the lives of Haj Metwali’s children. Stars such as Wafaa Amer, Nermine Elfeky, Edward, Samira Sedki, Mohamed Abdel-Gawad, Abeer Monir, Nermin Mohsen and Abdullah al-Amiri will feature in the show.

Frawla
Also releasing in Ramadan, this new comedy show will run for 15 episodes in total. With little to no information revealed about the script, the plot of the show will remain a mystery until further notice. However, anticipation is heightened as Egyptian star couple Hisham Ashour and Nelly Karim will appear together for the very first time since their marriage. Hisham will play a character with mental struggles, adding a hint of realism to the comedy show.
Frawla is expected to release sometime during March, 2024.
Baba Geh
Baba Geh follows the story of a man who wakes up from his sleep one day to discover mysterious phrases appearing on his body which somehow turn out to be true as events unfold. Egyptian actor and musician Akram Hosny will take part in this comedic fantasy show. Produced by Karim Abu Zekry, directed by Khaled El Halfawy and written by Ihab Blibl, this upcoming Ramadan TV show will feature 15 episodes in total.
