Did SALT Burger Actually Open Up in London?

Representatives from the GCC-based brand have said that the UK version is not affiliated with the original one

UAE residents and foodies who’ve been regulars at home-grown hero Salt aren’t sure what to make of a rumoured duplicate which recently debuted in London – in fact, some are downright furious that their favourite food truck-turned-restaurant has been seemingly duped.

Starting out at Kite Beach by UAE-born Independent Food Company in 2014, the brand quickly expanded throughout the Emirates before going international.

Did SALT Burger Actually Open Up in London?

Currently, the burger chain has branches in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait but despite online rumours, the UK is not part of that list.

Recently, TikTokers and Instagrammers shared posts of the supposed new franchise in London’s bustling Leicester Square only for the videos to receive comments of loyal “Salters” saying that the restaurant may not be related to the original Dubai-based eatery.

Some concerned fans of the chain visited the restaurant’s official social media pages to ask whether they’ve opened in the UK…

After much speculation, speaking to The National, the UAE food company confirmed that it has no connection to the branch that has cropped up in the UK.

However, this is not the first time the chain is being copied. While the food truck has a restaurant in Qatar, a replicated version also exists in Doha. According to reports, it’s this version that has now gone to London.

The UK branch not only uses the UAE chain’s name, but it also has similar packaging with it’s famous black and white logo.

While their Instagram page also seems to replicate the branding of the original version that was started by Emirati businesswoman Amal Al Marri and her Saudi business partner Deem Al Bassam.

The London eatery also seems to be offering similar menu items such as burgers, French fries and soft drinks.
