We Step Inside The Dior Beauty Circus Of Dreams
The Dior Beauty Circus of Dreams comes to life via the creative genius of Italian artist Pietro Ruffo
Pietro Ruffo may not be a name one immediately associates with Dior Beauty, yet he is the creative hand and heartfelt visionary behind the houses’s celebrated Holiday artworks, a cherished friend and long-time collaborator of the brand. Known for his intricate paintings and figurative paper compositions, the contemporary Italian artist began his career as an architect, a discipline that continues to shape his artistic approach. “I am an architect, so I like to organise my drawings according to an orderly and harmonious composition,” he explains. “Each work is made up of different drawings and layers, becoming a visual palimpsest that invites viewers into a dreamlike world,” Pietro explains.

This year, the Roman artist has taken Monsieur Dior’s lucky star and reimagined the motif through his own lens, creating a vision worthy of the house of Dior. Entitled Dior Circus of Dreams, the collection draws inspiration from the enchanting world of the circus. In a parade of luminous gold, silver and rose gold, the limited-edition pieces are brought to life in the most magical way. “When Dior told me about the theme of the circus, I immediately thought of a world of poetry in motion,” Pietro reflects. “The circus is not simply a show; it is a space of metamorphosis, tension and suspended beauty. I felt a particular excitement at the idea of exploring this universe through a graphic language – to anchor it in Dior’s inherent elegance, while infusing it with fantasy and memory.
From make-up palettes to perfume boxes, the intricate designs and patterns will decorate the Dior Beauty collections this holiday season – a process that started with “a procession of emotions” says the artist adding: “The figures I drew – acrobats, riders, jugglers – are not there to represent a literal show, but rather to embody the expectation, the transformation, the wonder. Each detail tells a silent story, like a fragrance that floats in the air.”

So, what inspired Pietro to start creating these bespoke artworks, and how did he begin the process? “My designs for Dior start from a very simple element: a blue pen. When I create my works of art, the first step is research, made on ancient and modern texts and directly on the field, taking hours, days and sometimes months of work even for the creation of a single drawing,” says Pietro.
The artist and house have been working together on this project over several years, with many memorable moments making it impossible for the creative to choose just one… “I certainly cannot choose a single moment. Each time it is an experience that is always new and unexpected. The process involves me in a total way: it absorbs my work with passion until the goal is reached. The result is also something that always excites me. It’s amazing to discover in a collection made from my drawings in the Dior boutiques. To see immense scenographies that attract the eye of every passers-by… It is breathtaking for me to see my projects coming to life through the incredible talent of the Dior team.”
