Primark Expands Its Dubai Presence With A Third Store For All Your Essentials
This high street favourite was well worth the wait…
Dubai’s retail offering is among the most storied in the world. The city has earned its standing as a global shopping go-to through scale and curation in equal measures, drawing more than nineteen million international visitors a year, many of whom arrive with shopping at the top of their itinerary. The Dubai Mall alone houses over 1,200 stores under one roof, and the spectrum is pretty complete: ultra-luxury houses sit across from elite department stores, while homegrown concepts and international icons have long satisfied the regional shopper.

There is, however, an increasing cohort of savvy shoppers, fluent in trend cycles, that want to look current without locking themselves into a single look or hefty price bracket. They seek the freedom to experiment with a micro-trend on Thursday and abandon it by Sunday. For years, this customer has done her topping-up abroad. A pitstop at Primark has become a near-ritual of the London trip, the kind of shop where a basket brims quickly, filled with plain tees, tights, and a playful pair of earrings tried on a whim. But now the ritual moves closer to home.
The Irish retailer has been around since 1969 and already operates in nineteen countries, having become a fixture of British high streets – after all, a considered closet needs reliable foundations. Primark opened its first UAE store back in March at The Dubai Mall in partnership with Alshaya Group, a second location followed at City Centre Mirdif in April, with a third opening at Mall of the Emirates this May.

Anyone who has built a serious wardrobe knows the maths – the investment pieces work because the supporting cast lets them. The black ribbed vest worn under a tailored blazer, the fine white cotton tee that disappears beneath an open-knit cardigan, the simple slip skirt that is the foundation for everything from a lace cami to a worn-in leather jacket. These are the items the Primark customer reaches for instinctively during a shopping run in the UK, often in multiples.
The Dubai stores offer the full array: womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, home and beauty, as well as exclusive licensed ranges with Disney, NBA and NFL. Primark’s accessories floor is where the high street’s most experimental impulses live – coloured tights, beaded clutches, woven raffia bags, and the kind of grippy hair claws that have replaced the scrunchie in every influencer’s morning routine. The Edit, Primark’s elevated range, addresses the gap between fast fashion and contemporary codes, with tailoring, knitwear and outerwear that holds its own beside elevated labels.

Two further openings are planned later this year for Bahrain and Qatar, bringing Primark’s footprint to twenty-one markets. For the UAE shopper who has been low-key importing in suitcases for years, the wait is over.
