The collection will be available for A/W17

Japanese retailer Uniqlo is renowned for its collaborations with some of the world’s coolest names with the likes of Bazaar‘s global fashion director Carine Roitfeld, Jil Sander and Inès de la Fressange all having worked with the brand. And overnight, the brand announced that J.W. Anderson is the latest designer to join the lauded line-up.

The designer will work on a capsule collection for A/W17 for the brand’s Lifewear line.

“Collaborations are incredibly important in design. When I think of Uniqlo, I think of things that are perfectly made, that people have spent a lot of time considering. Working with Uniqlo is probably the most incredible template of democracy in fashion, and it’s nice that my designs can be accessible to anyone, on all different levels,” the designer said in a statement.

There’s been very few details on what the collection will look like, but Yuki Katsuta, the head of research and design at Uniqlo, shared some insights with Bazaar US. “We did everything: outwear, sweaters, bottoms, shirts, accessories including scarves and a bag. You can still feel J.W. Anderson’s edgy inspiration but the collection is based on a classic British style so that means fashion people can wear it, but also normal people can wear it very easily.”

The Irish designer currently runs his own namesake label in addition to Loewe. This collaboration marks his return to the hight street, five years after he partnered with Topshop on two sell-out collections.
