Designer Who Called Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress “Identical” To One Of Her Designs Has Twitter Account Suspended
Emilia Wickstead also made comments about the “loose” fit of the dress
For those of you who are behind on the story, here’s a recap – New Zealand-born British-based designer Emilia Wickstead made claims that Meghan Markle’s wedding dress was “identical” to a dress in her collection.
Markle wore a custom design by Givenchy’s Clare Wright Keller for her marriage to Prince Harry. However Wickstead, who is a designer often worn by Kate Middleton, is reported to have said: “Her dress is identical to one of our dresses. Apparently a lot of commentators were saying, ‘It’s an Emilia Wickstead dress.”
She added: “If you choose a simple design the fit should be perfect. Her wedding dress was quite loose.”
And commenting on the bride’s hair, reports claim she said: ‘I was like, ‘Hold the wisps [of her hair] back — it’s a Royal Wedding […].”
Now it seems that Wickstead’s Twitter account has been suspended, although at the time of writing it is not known why.
Many people on the Twittersphere were annoyed by the comments. Some were keen to know how this would affect Wickstead’s longstanding relationship with the royal family, which has seen her dress both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.
@MeadhbhMcGrath wrote: “Deeply unprofessional comments from Emilia Wickstead on Meghan’s Givenchy gown! Will Kate Middleton sever ties with one of her favourite designers over this?”
There is now a statement on Emilia Wickstead’s official Instagram account in response to the backlash.
