How Saudi Arabia’s Women’s Football Team Made History…

A defining moment for the future of women’s sport in KSA and a true inspiration to the world…

Saudi Arabia’s national women’s football team has just won their first international game, taking the victory over the Seychelles with an end score of 2-0. The first goal was scored by Al-Bandari Mubarak within the first quarter, followed by Mariam al-Tamimi, who showed up for her team in the second half scoring on a penalty kick.

This is Saudi Arabia’s first foray into international women’s football and when asked about the opportunity to play against another country, head coach, Monika Staab did not underemphasize the importance of this match: “This is a historical moment for women’s football in Saudi Arabia.”

Belonging to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, The Women’s Football Department established its first Regional League in November 2021, giving players a platform to showcase their talent with the hopes of eventually making the national team.

Renowned football star and veteran of the sport, Pelé, took to Twitter to congratulate the team, only underscoring the magnitude of the moment, not just for female sport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but for women’s football worldwide.

With every match they play the team is hoping to gain more experience. They have already set their eyes on obtaining FIFA certification once they feel that they are prepared to do so.
