Beirut-born video artist Akram Zaatari’s photography series captures various objects through an historical lens. The show offers portraits and images collected over time, reflecting his astute use of techniques such as photography diffusion. Akram Zaatari. The Body of Film. 2017. Backlit UV print on cloth. 100x150x10cm.
Zaatari’s works are a survey of themes such as occupation, displacement, partition, blockade, violence and war, and he certainly draws on memory, unsurprising as he lived through the Lebanese Civil War. A keen exploration of the subjective nature of history.
