Sharjah Art Foundation is showing Selections: Summer 2017, a group exhibition part of its annual summer programme. The show features works from the foundation’s existing collection of artworks that has greatly evolved both in number as well as its reflection of global contemporary art.
Selections: Summer 2017 encompasses a diverse mix of media including painting, photography, film, sculpture and installation. The SAF collection’s scope remains international but with a great focus on works by artists in the region. There’s a strong line-up of artists from the UAE, Lebanon, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, the United Kingdom and Germany, who will showcase their varied bodies of work.
Among them, Fouad Elkoury, Iman Issa, Sara Rahbar, Nevin Aladag, and Rasheed Araeen’s works will be on view in Al Mureijah Square. SAF’s newly inaugurated Al Hamriyah Studios will house artworks by Emirati artists Ammar Al Attar and Lamya Gargash, Iraqi Hala Al-Ani, Egyptian Ayman Ramadan, and German artist Andreas Gursky.

The SAF collection includes artworks that are showcased or commissioned for Sharjah Biennials (now 13 editions old) and other SAF projects, and is spread across the foundation’s many galleries in Sharjah’s Heritage Area and off-site spaces across the Emirate. Al Hamriyah Studios is one of the newest SAF off-site spaces, located on the Al Hamriyah Sharjah coast and inaugurated in March this year. Once a historical souq, it’s now an interactive space for artists and display of artworks.
