The multimedia show will delight viewers in Abu Dhabi and Dubai with masterpieces by the Dutch artist in a unique, multisensory setting

An unprecedented travelling exhibition charting the exquisite works of Dutch master Vincent Van Gogh is soon to make its way to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, where it will find home for the next three months.

Van Gogh Alive – The Experience is a multimedia exhibition illustrating the breadth of Van Gogh’s paintings from 1880 until his death in 1890, known to be his most productive artistic phase. The exhibition will take place for six weeks each in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, starting this month at the Abu Dhabi National Theatre and running until February, before moving to Dubai Design District (D3) from March to April.

Over 3,000 of the post-impressionist’s artworks will dress the walls, floors and ceilings of the venues across 40 high-definition projectors for a unique, immersive experience. After travelling to over 35 countries, the richly reflective exhibition now aims at redefining the traditional way of experiencing art in the UAE by creating a multisensorial setting of light and sound. Viewers will delve into the impastoed, painterly masterpieces by Van Gogh, who is known for works such as The Starry Night (1889), Sunflowers (1889), and Vincent’s Chair with his Pipe (1888).

Among the works that will be on view include his diverse self-portraits, known to be his way of self-introspection, alongside an array of figure, still life and landscape paintings imbued with symbolic motifs, distinct brushstrokes and vivid colours. The idea is to allow viewers to fully immerse themselves in the inner workings of the artist’s often troubled mind and how he continues to stay ‘alive’ through his timeless body of work.
