And it is also being transformed into a museum

Organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and sponsored by Koç Holding, the 16th edition of the Istanbul Biennial is set to launch on 14 September until 10 November this year. Announced today, the Antrepo 5 will be the third venue housing the prominent contemporary art show, alongside the Pera Museum and Büyükada Island. The new site has replaced the previously chosen Istanbul Shipyards venue due to the presence of asbestos materials in some of the buildings as well as construction delay.

Situated on the waterfront in the Tophane district of central Istanbul and spread over 17,700 square metres, Antrepo 5 was once a warehouse and it has been undergoing major restoration over the last eight years. The building is being revamped into a museum for the painting and sculpture collection of the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum, which is set to launch next year.

Held every two years, the Istanbul Biennial has been an interactive platform for contemporary artists and curators since 1987, highlighting the newest trends in the art world in the field of visual arts.
