Exclusive: Backstage Beauty at Chanel Cruise 2020
Bet you didn’t think you’d be rocking a black lip this season…
When Chanel took over the Grand Palais in Paris last week for their Cruise 2020 show, it was, as expected, a spectacle to behold. Transforming the iconic Paris location into none other than a train station, the fashion house’s new Creative Director Virginie Viard didn’t disappoint with her sleek, monochrome tailoring. However it was the dark, ultra-glossy lips that really caught our attention.

Created by Chanel’s Global Creative Makeup and Color Designer Lucia Pica, if anyone was going to have us coveting black lipstick, there’s no questions it would be her. Want to get the look? Pica revealed her tips to BAZAAR on how to adopt this bold and sophisticated look…
The Lips
Left either au naturel or coated in a slick, black gloss, the super-dramatic latter is the perfect complement to natural, glowy skin.
“For the colour to stay on a little longer on the lips I started with the lip liner Le Crayon Levrés Noir -Vamp with a very burgundy matte lipstick underneath – Rouge Allure Velvet Extrême Rouge Obscur. I finished the look with the black cherry gloss on top, Rouge Coco Gloss Laque Noir for a lacquered effect. The trick is the layers underneath which help to keep the gloss on.”
