This month, perfume gets personal as Dior launches Touche de Parfum, a precious oil that simultaneously pays homage to this region and harnesses the scent of the brand’s iconic J’adore fragrance. Applied directly to the skin through a delicate dropper, the oil is designed
to act as a base layer before the addition of fragrance for a personal touch.
“It’s an interpretation of the ancient Middle Eastern technique of layering perfumes, which blend one by one into the skin,” French fragrance historian Elisabeth de Feydeau tells Bazaar. “It was first seen in Persia in the fourth millennium BC, an era when perfumes were oils. It is one of the oldest ways of perfuming the body.”
Originally reserved for royals, this historic luxury is now available for contemporary beauty connoisseurs. And, with a complimentary bottle engraving service just in time for festive season, it makes for the most ambrosial of bespoke gifts. — Maddison Glendinning
