The Black Swan
“For a feather effect, use fake lashes with long thin hairs. After gluing them down you can use mascara to connect the fake lashes perfectly with your real ones,” says make-up expert, Chris Schild.

“The lash extensions I use come in four thicknesses – 0.25mm, 0.20mm, 0.15mm and 0.10mm – and are all synthetic and hand cut. 0.10mm lashes are my favourite because they are the closest to the natural lash. For special occasions, opt for 0.15mm to give more of a ‘va-va-voom’ look to the eyes – anything heavier risks damage to the natural lashes,” advises Pastels’ Laila.

“Curl your lashes softly with an eyelash curler. Apply a black crayon very close to your lash line to emphasise the length and blend the colour towards your lashes – this adds more depth, and your lashes appear darker from the corner inwards,” advises Chris.

“The difference that lash extensions can make to your eyes is phenomenal – a look that no mascara can replicate,” says Laila. “In fact, if you have lash extensions, you don’t need to wear mascara at all. If you’re in-between extensions, use YSL False Lash Effect Mascara. Waterproof mascara is a big no-no for me – I have seen many clients pull out their eyelashes trying to remove it.”

“Care for your lash extensions by avoiding oil-based make-up removers, and do not brush them. Blow-dry them for a few seconds after getting them wet. This sets the adhesive and fluffs the lashes,” says Laila Nazari, resident brow and lash expert at Pastels Salon Jumeirah.

“Inspired by Twiggy, ’60s beauty is still influential 50 years later,” says Chris. “Prepare your lashes with a base, let them dry a little and then use a false lash mascara. Now use individual lashes, long or short, to create your desired effect. Complete the look with eyeliner dots above or below.”
