Frédéric Malle Opens Its First KSA Boutique

The French luxury label announces its opening of a new flagship in the ever-evolving Kingdom of Saudi Arabia…

For those of us with a penchant for perfumes and an insatiable appetite for unique scents (ones created by master perfumers who prioritise the true spirit of the fragrance above all else), we have some exciting news… A new Frédéric Malle flagship has opened doors in Dammam, Saudi Arabia as the house prepares to brings its repertoire of scents to a third location within the region.

Characterised by a modernist yet minimalistic design on the outside (the focus, after all, should always be on the fragrance itself and not the pomp surrounding le jus), the boutique pays a heartfelt tribute to the Paris flagship – right down to the fabrics and adorned walls.

Five smelling columns complete the luxe space, providing opportunities for Frédéric Malle perfume specialists to take clients along on a journey through the power of scent, allowing them to experience fragrances tailored to their preferences (unlike the mass sampling which so often occurs in a department store’s perfume hall.)

While the experience of finding a new addition to one’s fragrance wardrobe at Frédéric Malle is more bespoke than made-for-all, it’s the ethos behind the brand that truly captivates those in the know…

Two decades ago, Frédéric Malle himself had the brilliant idea to launch his eponymous Maison with a unique concept that looks at a more traditional way of creating perfume, one without a one-size-fits-all mindset. Breaking away from the industry’s constraining cannons and restraining trends the Paris-born author introduced a new approach when it came to luxe fragrances – not entirely dissimilar to a curator or editor who goes about finding the best of the best within a specific niche, and asks them to contribute their expertise and knowledge to a great project in hopes of revolutionising an industry. Frédéric granted prominent industry figures with total creative freedom to craft unique scents, fragrances that fused together experimentation and savoir-faire.

Now, he’s convinced long-time friend Maurice Roucel to create Uncut Gem: an assemblage of several nose-charming notes that radiate contemporary elegance and masculine energy – the newest addition to its repertoire of fragrances.

In a poetic statement, Frédéric described Uncut Gem as ”Clear, spicy with top notes of ginger, bergamot, mandarin, angelica root and nutmeg lead you to the fire within: a leathery accord, vetiver, frankincense, generous amounts of amber, and a musk that vibrates with the skin. A muscular corollary, in a sense, to the classic Musc Ravageur.” He also added that “The result is both straightforward and enigmatic… The result somehow renders the smell of skin deeper, warmer, cleaner. Uncut Gem is a study in contrasts. It’s rugged and sensitive, classic and fresh, first impression and haunting echo…”
