Planning a back-to-school “tweakment” appointment any time soon? Dr. Dany Kayle, founder of Dr. Kayle Aesthetic Clinic Dubai, shares all the answers to your burning questions about filler’s newest alternative

How is Profhilo different from filler and Botox? And what are the benefits of it? How does it hold up to other rivals on the market? Bazaar Arabia answers all your questions…

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to look your best — and needing a bit of help to achieve it. And with the advancements of the technology behind some of the most popular tweakment procedures, being the best version of yourself is more attainable than ever before. But, naturally, it’s normal to have a few questions before taking the next step within your beauty regime. Here, Dubai-based plastic surgeon Dr. Dany Kayle shares expert insight into Profhilo, answering all of our questions.

Harper’s Bazaar Arabia (HBA): How is Profhilo different from filler and Botox?

Dr Dany Kayle (DK): Profhilo is completely different from filler and Botox.  Botox is a drug that is injected into the muscle itself to paralyze it with the consequence that it diminishes the wrinkles on the skin that overlies that specific muscle; fillers are made of crosslinked hyaluronic acid and serve to give volume to the area into which they are injected.

Unlike Botox which softens lines and filler which gives volume, Profhilo is a completely different offering. Derived from 100% pure hyaluronic acid, Profhilo is non-crosslinked and helps improve the quality of the skin.

As we age and the production of the “scaffolding” proteins within our skin starts to reduce, and it becomes lax and wrinkles are more visible. The overall texture of our skin is also negatively affected appearing dull, dry and lacklustre.

Profhilo is designed to tackle these problems through effective skin bio-remodelling in just two sessions. Specifically targeting a two-centimetre radius of the injection site, there are just 5 injection points on each side of the face to ensure optimal distribution and absorption of the slow-release Hyaluronic Acid formula.

Given its gel-like consistency, Profhilo distributes smoothly and evenly without the formation of any lumps – a potential risk with traditional fillers. This means it can be used on areas that are difficult to treat with traditional fillers, such as the neck and forehead but it can also be used for the décolletage, hands, arms, knees and abdomen area.

By spreading a beautiful layer of moisture right across the surface under the skin, it gives skin an unrivaled radiance and a hydrated and plumped appearance, eradicating tiny lines and imperfections like a filter!

HBA: What are the benefits of Profhilo?

Dr. DK: Profhilo acts on the skin cells from beneath in order to moisturise and rejuvenate facial skin, thus restoring its glow and firmness. By injecting into specific anatomical points it can remodel and enhance the skin quality without adding any volume. It works to improve on the quality of the tissue itself rather than a mere volume replenishment. In essence, this injectable treatment stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to offer skin rejuvenation. Results include increased firmness, improved texture, tone and elasticity and enhanced radiance, with the effects lasting up to 6 months.

HBA: What can go wrong with Profhilo?

Dr. DK: Like any injection, knowing the anatomy is a must to avoid any complications such as injecting into a vessel.

HBA: Is bruising common with Profhilo? Are there any side effects?

Dr. DK: Bruising can happen with any needle prick anywhere in the body – but if you have Profhilo administered by a reputable doctor, this can be managed easily, if it happens.

HBA: Who is a good candidate for Profhilo?

Dr. DK: The Profhilo treatment has gained popularity because it is suitable for all types of skin and for both sexes, men and women, of all ages.

HBA: Can you have Profhilo with botox and fillers?

Dr. DK: It depends on the case. Profhilo is enough alone if the target is to achieve a healthier appearance of the skin, to enhance hydration and see a mild lifting effect. However, if volume loss or skin laxity are already advanced, then other modalities should be done in conjunction with Profhilo

HBA: How long does Profhilo last?

Dr. DK: When the right protocol is followed, it lasts an average of six months. The protocol consists of two sessions with a four-week interval and then a maintenance session twice a year.
