Everything You Need To Know About Facial Rollers

If you’ve scrolled through Instagram over the past month, you will have undoubtedly come across beauty’s favourite new trend: the facial roller.

Sure, they look pretty, but do they deserve a place on your bathroom cabinet? BAZAAR chats to Lejla Cas, beauty guru and founder of Knesko Skin, to find out everything you need to know.

Harper's BAZAAR Arabia: What drew you to the beauty industry?
Lejla Cas: Since I was a young girl, I watched my mum apply her make-up and skincare, and was always in love with beauty products. When I graduated high-school I knew that I wanted to get into beauty industry as a long term-career. Women in general tend to be very hard on ourselves, and I take it as a personal responsibility to remind my clients, about the importance of self-love and care.

In 2002 I was working in Australia and was introduced to Reiki. I began using it to help keep me balanced and grounded in my daily life. I dreamed of creating a company based on the principles of my greatest love: energy work, skincare, and gemstones. I went on to launch Knesko Skin in 2012.

HBA: What are facial rollers?
LC: In short, they are beauty tools designed to enrich your morning and evening skin care rituals. Metaphysically each of our gemstone rollers are known to help bring positive energy and they each have an affirmation to go with it. For example, Green Jade helps attract wealth, love and wisdom, and White Jade is known to attract peace and harmony in all areas of one's life.

HBA: Why are they an important part of our beauty routine?
LC: They help improve blood flow, increase collagen production and skin elasticity. The also help the absorption of serums and face oils into the skin, detoxifying the body by stimulating the lymphatic drainage, preventing fluid retention, therefore minimizing puffiness and dark circles under the eyes, and finally, balancing chakras and energy of the body.

HBA: How often should we be using them?
LC: At least once a day; in the morning or when putting on your favourite serum or face oil. They can also be used over any mask to help with the absorption of serum. A top tip I always share: try refrigerating your rollers for extra cooling and de-puffing effect, especially if you have dark circles and puffy under-eyes.

HBA: What about roller hygiene?
LC: You should always clean your rollers after every use. Just gently wash them in warm, soapy water and wipe dry with a soft cloth. Don't use water that exceeds a temperature of 80-degrees C and don't use alcohol either.

HBA: What have you got in store for the future of Knesko?
LC: We've just launched new collections (the Rose Quartz Antioxidant and Black Pearl Detox collection) in the USA, which will be released later in the year in the UAE.

Knesko Skin is available at Bloomingdales, Ounass and Harvey Nichols.
