Nutritionist Liliane Zaher’s Top 5 Tips For Wholesome Health

Bazaar Arabia shares some of nutritionist Liliane Zaher’s best advice for healthy eating, exercise and mental health

A Kuwaiti mother, author, and nutritionist, Liliane Zaher seems to juggle it all effortlessly. Underpinning her success? Healthy choices, from a balanced diet to soaking up the sun.

Here, she shares her simple and easy tips to improving your mental and physical health.

Mastering the art of a balanced diet

According to Liliane, the fundamental element of cultivating a healthy lifestyle is to ensure you are absorbing adequate nutrients in the correct quantities. Try to consume something from every food group: proteins, good carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables.

Keeping fruits and vegetables fresh

Preserving the nutrients in your food requires some practical measures. The best way to maximise your nutrient intake is to:

  1. Wrap the stalk of a bunch of bananas in aluminium foil
  2. Wash and store strawberries in a container lined with tissue paper
  3. Trim the ends of coriander stems and store in a jar with water

Enhancing nutritional benefits by pairing ingredients

  1. Avocado and Tomato: The beneficial fats in avocados aid in the absorption of lycopene that is found in tomatoes
  2. Turmeric and black pepper: The combination of black pepper and turmeric increasingly enhances the absorption of curcumin, a derivative of turmeric, by up to 2000%
  3. Vitamin (C) rich foods: incorporating foods that contain high levels of this vitamin promotes a higher level of iron absorption from plant-based sources

Enjoying the sunshine

Even if it’s only for 15 minutes, a walk in the morning sun not only helps balance hormones, but also strengthens gut health, and any kind of everyday movement is a bonus. Combine this daily habit with a glass of water infused with sea salts for the optimal morning routine.

Self-Belief

Last, but most definitely not least, Liliane emphasises the importance of mental wellbeing in fostering an overall healthy lifestyle. Whether it’s about manifesting your goals, or having the confidence in your ability to achieve them, each step has its own, unrecognizable significance. Any amount of progress, is still progress.
