7 Ways To Incorporate Mindfulness In Your Life

Mindfulness has been a hot topic for a while now, but what does it really mean to be mindful? At its most basic, mindfulness is something we can all incorporate into our daily lives, it is the ability to live in the moment and be truly aware of our surroundings.

1. Focus on Your Breathing

Be aware of your breath. A simple act of inhaling and exhaling, also known as mindful breathing, can help you deal with stress and anxiety and will also help sharpen your focus and concentration.

2. Appreciate the Little Things In Life

Your favourite song playing on the radio, getting to pet a dog, receiving a funny meme from a friend…take the time to appreciate the small things that make you happy. Take time out of your day to do one small thing that makes you happy, even if it’s just picking up a magazine and having a cup of tea out of your favourite teacup!

3. Sleep Peacefully!

We tend to be lost in thoughts, past or present or in some cases, future, when trying to sleep. Forget the bad memories and situations; focus on today and practice breathing when you are on your bed, waiting to sleep. Mindfulness is all about conditioning your brain to think about what you want it to and while sleeping, the only thing you want to think about is sleep!

4. Be Mindful at Work

Swamped with work and have a lot to tick off your to-do list? Mindfulness can help! Have a chat with your colleagues and take a moment away from your desk. Stop to think about all that you have achieved and everything you want to achieve at work that day.

5. Practice mindfulness when eating

Enjoy each bite of your food. Savour each mouthful and try not to rush your lunch sitting at your desk at work! Take time to enjoy your food and be grateful for the lovely meal in front of you. It will taste much better this way, I promise!

6. Move!

Exercising, practising yoga or just taking a dip in the pool can help you create a healthy and mindful environment for yourself. Meditation is also a great way to exercise the mind.


7. Lastly, treat yourself to some me-time

Plug yourself off from society and focus on the things you like and enjoy doing. A spa session coupled with yoga can help you feel refreshed, rejuvenated and recharged for new challenges.
