Luminescent Beauty Takes Centre-Stage At Dior Haute Couture
Healthy, fresh skin was spotted on the catwalk as Dior Beauty’s Creative and Image Director, Peter Philips, harnessed the power of light to turn models into ethereal goddesses
“Very pure, very simple.”
That’s precisely how Dior Beauty’s Creative and Image Director, Peter Philips, described the make-up look for Dior’s Haute Couture A/W 2023-2024.
While the collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri sought inspiration from goddesses, playing with silhouettes that appeared to merge dress with figure and form, Peter allowed elements of marble statues, coupled with the set’s lighting, to influence his vision for make-up.

This wasn’t glowing skin, or no make-up make-up or, even, a look that could be described as “pearlescent”; it was a celebration of natural beauty, where features like freckles and full brows were complemented with a fresh, clean complexion — as smooth as one of Michelangelo’s sculptures.
“For skin I used Dior Prestige skincare to prep… then the Forever Glow Veil primer,” Peter noted, stressing the importance of preparation when emulating a clean beauty look where the visage looks lit from within. Foundation (Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation) followed suit, then a bit of concealer (Dior Forever Skin Correct) for extra coverage – but only where it was absolutely needed.
For the eyes, Peter and his team curled the models’ lashes and added a small dusting of gold shadow from the Diorshow 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette in Grand Bal to the lid, lightly smudging the darkest shade of the palette into the lash line with a flat brush. There was no mascara or eyeliner to avoid taking away from the pureness of the look.
“There’s no blush, there’s no highlighting or contouring because the glow is in the foundation,” he said, touching on how the lighting from the set brought the look to life, naturally sculpting the models’ facial features.
A swipe of Rouge Dior Lip Balm in Satin Finish completed the look. “It’s a fragile look, but at the same time it’s a very strong look – because it’s so pure,” Peter said.
