After two years in development, French heritage house Hermès took to Instagram last month to announce the launch of its hotly anticipated 24-strong lipstick collection in a variety of satin and matte finishes. Taking inspiration from the ‘soft, powdery finishes’ of its iconic range of leathers, the exciting new line will be available to buy in Hermès boutiques from March.
“Hermès is a school for beauty,” explains Bali Barret, Artistic Director of the maison’s women’s universe. “And for us, colour is a science and a dizzying, unbridled passion.” At Barret’s disposal was “an extraordinary and almost limitless palette of 75,000 colours” from archived silk swatches that inspired the 17 different shades of Hermès’ debut cosmetic collection. We’re particularly drawn to the intense pink-orange of Corail Flamingo; Rose Boisé, which is described as ‘raspberry mocha’, while Rouge H has been a signature red at Hermès since 1925.
The highly coveted collection will also comprise a lip balm, a lip shine, a ‘universal’ neutral lip pencil and a brush, as well as lipstick cases and a moon-shaped hand mirror that doubles up as a necklace, all made from the signature Madame calfskin.
The brilliantly pigmented lipsticks are packaged in vibrant tri-colour refillable casing that’s made from permabrass and metal hardware which can also be spotted across the bags and accessory line. Along with a formula boasting natural ingredients, the house makes an admirable contribution to sustainability with its zero-plastic pledge.
If Hermès first foray into make-up leaves you wanting more, you won’t be disappointed as we hear that foundation, blush and eye colours aren’t far behind.
