The puzzling term describes an auditory sensation–when certain sounds give what has been described as a ‘tingly’ feeling. The phenomena first took the internet by storm in the early 2000s and since then, YouTube has garnered over 13 million ASMR videos on its platform.
Make-up artist and influencer, Christine Abraham first got inspired to create her own ASMR videos after seeing the viral trend pop-up on TikTok. Having been a fan of OG YouTubers like JuicyStar07 (Blair Fowler) and MacBarbie07 (Bethany Mota), Abraham began practicing makeup at a young age. “I always enjoyed watching them apply makeup and seeing how confident they looked and felt. I wanted the same for myself so I started to play around with my mom’s makeup at age 12.”
Scrolling through @ChristineAbraham we’re immediately hypnotized by her face indulging IG reels. In one, the Egyptian-American influencer can be seen applying goops of glittery Truly beauty mask to the sweet sounds of bubbling water and in another we see her using cooling facial globes as chimes ring in the background.
When it comes to her favorite technique, be it brush or lip, Abraham favors a sharp eyeliner inspired by her family’s roots. “Ancient Egyptians have always been known for their bold winged eyeliner and I always try to incorporate that into my looks,” says Abraham.
For those of us looking to perfect our beauty regimes, Abraham offers some sage advice when it comes to the most important step of makeup application. “Always prep your skin before you go in with your base makeup! I unfortunately learned the hard way. Making sure my skin is exfoliated and moisturized before I go in with foundation almost always guarantees that my makeup application will look flawless!”
