Exclusive: Celebrity Hair Colourist Myriam Keramane Shares Her Tips And Tricks For Brides-To-Be
Renowned for tending to the tresses of celebrities and VIPs, as well as creating award-winning salons and an eponymous line of haircare products, unstoppable Myriam Keramane is the pro you need to know
Having made a name for herself as one of the world’s top hair colourists, and praised as the woman who introduced the Brazilian keratin treatment to France, redesigning it to fit within the strict requirements of the European Union, French-Algerian Myriam Keramane’s famed Parisian hair salon is the go-to for celebrities and influencers who crave an exquisite experience as much as the glamorous results.
Now, the CEO and founder of haircare line Myriam•K Paris has her sights set on the Middle East – exciting news for her long list of local clients and brides-to-be. Here, the celebrated entrepreneur speaks to Bazaar’s Nina Catt and shares her top tips, tricks and the latest trend to try…
What’s the number-one piece of advice you give to brides-to-be when it comes to planning their big-day hair? Start the colouring process at least three weeks before the wedding. Often brides want to change their hair colour or want highlights, and they plan to do it just one week before the day. I always advise to do it with more time so they can get used to the colour and if they’re not happy, there is time to change it. This also applies for cuts and trims.
What else do bridal clients always ask for? They always want length, volume and shine.
What is the biggest trend in hair colour for spring/summer 2022? Red is back. Warm, copper colours are in.
What is your advice for maintaining hair colour at home? Especially in the sun-drenched Middle East? It is essential to use sulphate-free shampoos so you don’t strip the colour. It is also necessary to use treatment masks with a low PH of around 3-3.5 to help seal the hair cuticle, and add shine.
The Myriam•K Paris masks have a PH of 3-3.5. In hot and sunny countries, colour tends to lighten so it’s also essential to use UVA and UVB protector sprays or oil. I launched the Myriam•K Paris Brazilian oil that has UVA and UVB filter with babassou and pracaxi oils. The latter are Brazilian oils sourced from the Amazon that will protect the hair from the sun and harsh water.
What kind of products should brides use to keep their hair in-check on hot and humid days? They absolutely need hairspray, hair wax, gel and a good serum – like our Argan Mood hair serum!
What’s your all-time favourite celebrity bridal look? I love simple looks for brides-to-be: loose hair with volume. I loved Kim Kardashian’s look the day of her wedding to Kanye West. It’s one of my favourite bridal looks of all time. Conversely, I also like hair tied tightly with a low bun, like Hailey Bieber wore on the day of her wedding.
You formulated a line of hair supplements. Please tell us a little more about those, and how they work? For me, it was important to have a 360° approach to hair growth by not only treating hair from the outside with a detoxifying hair oil, shampoo and growth-stimulating lotion for the scalp, but from the inside too.
It was my mission to help treat any deficiencies that my clients might have, such as lack of iron, biotion and hyaluronic acid. I wanted to ensure we were able to provide a complete supplement that can respond to the various problems that women may face when suffering hair fall.
What should one expect to see when taking hair supplements? Results start to show after three months. These include length, strength, volume and shine.
We adore your hair fragrances. Can you tell us a little about them? Wow thank you so much! I started with the Signature fragrance. It was such a huge success that I developed six scents to widen the collection. For me, it is important to fragrance the hair with a perfume dedicated to tresses as to not cause any damage, so I developed specific formulas in a laboratory that do not harm the hair and also don’t have a weak scent that quickly disappears. Our hair fragrance collection leaves the hair smelling good all the time! Everyone likes to have hair that smells good.
So true! Which VIP clients have you worked with? I have been lucky to work with many American celebrities including Julia Haart. I have also worked with different Sheikhas and royal family members in the Middle East and worldwide, as well as many presidents’ wives. Other clients include influencers such as Fatima Almomen, Laila Abdallah, Rania Fawaz and Lady Fozaza.
That’s an impressive list. Finally, Bazaar Bride is thrilled to exclusively announce that you will be opening a salon here in the Middle East in June! Congratulations. What can we expect? Thank you so much. I’ve been working for two years on this project, planning the location of the salon, finding the best staff etc. All of my clients from the region were asking me to open a salon, so I am so excited to finally do it in Dubai’s City Walk. For me, it is an exhilarating challenge. I will offer my personal services alongside my team, as well as stocking the Myriam•K Paris product range. I am so excited!
